7th Grade Science Syllabus Culver City Middle School Mr. Kim Email: [email protected] SCIENCE COURSE DESCRIPTION In accordance with the California Science Standards, 7th grade science students will explore the world of life science.
Students will journey into the workings of the smallest unit of life today and throughout Earth’s history. The function and interdependency of the human body systems will also be examined.
In the course of the year, students will practice many scientific skills which will enable them to ask a question, experiment and draw conclusions from the results. Procedures Students need to bring the following things to class every day: 1. At the beginning of class, students copy the daily agenda in their Time Tracker. All corrected work will be entered and kept within a Portfolio which is stored in the classroom. Portfolios may be checked-out upon request. Late work will be accepted however it will be penalized by a deduction of points. An increase in days late will increase the points deducted.
Grading Grades will be assigned on a standard point scale: B+ = 88 – 89% C+ = 78 – 79% D+ = 68 – 69% F = 0 = 59% A = 92 – 100% B = 82 – 87% C = 72 – 77% D = 62 – 67% A- = 90 – 91% B- = 80 – 81% C- = 70 – 71% D- = 60 – 61% Course grades will be based on homework, quizzes, tests, class work, and projects. Citizenship grades are based on classroom behavior, cooperation and performance in lab groups, respect of classmates and teacher, and teacher discretion. Student’s grade will based on the following assignments.

7th Grade Plant and Animal Cell Model Project 1. Choose to make either a Plant Cell (p. 90) or an Animal Cell (p.
91) 3-D model. Put your name and period number on the back of the poster. Labels and descriptions may be typed and printed but you need to create the model of the cell using various materials that look similar to the cell parts (including colors). If it is just a drawing of the Plant and Animal Cell you will loose at least 10 points. If it is a poster and not a model, size of the paper must be at least 9” X 12.” and no bigger than 12” X 20”. You need to list all the structures of the cell and its descriptions.
